Ronald G. Harrington, entrepreneur and philanthropist, is the former owner and CEO of Edgepark Medical Supplies (now called AssuraMed) in Cleveland, Ohio, the largest mail-order provider of specialty medical supplies in the United States. In 1990, Ron and his wife, Nancy, purchased Edgepark Surgical Inc., a struggling durable medical equipment and supply company with 34 employees and transformed it into an industry giant with eight national distribution centers and nearly 1,200 employees. The family sold the majority interest in Edgepark’s parent company in 2010. In 2013, Cardinal Health bought the company for more than $2 billion.

Ron has a passion for finding entrepreneurial solutions for pressing problems. A major supporter of University Hospitals Case Medical Center in Cleveland, the Harrington Family’s 2008 commitment of $22.6 million established the University Hospitals Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute and is among the largest gifts in the country to a cardiovascular institute. In 2012, the Harrington Family made a catalytic gift of $50 million to establish The Harrington Project for Discovery and Development, a national initiative centered at University Hospitals Case Medical Center. This bold model uses a unique structure that aligns nonprofit and for-profit entities to provide the nation’s best and brightest physician-scientists with the scientific and business support they need to accelerate breakthrough discoveries into medicines. Ron is Chairman of BioMotiv, the for-profit company, that connects promising medical research to financiers and pharmaceutical companies, and plays an active role in the growth and development of The Harrington Project.

Ron has been recognized with numerous awards for his entrepreneurial and philanthropic endeavors. Most recently, Ron was inducted into the Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans, which honors the achievements and contributions of outstanding business, civic, and cultural leaders. The Award symbolizes the Association’s values, including integrity, hard work, perseverance, and compassion for others.
